The Calvin College Knights are proud to officially announce the commitment of Jared VanHeest.

Jared has spent the last 3 seasons with the West Ottawa Varsity hockey team.  Over the past two seasons he has had a total of 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points in 53 games.  After helping West Ottawa earn a 20-3-2 record in his junior season, they moved up to Tier 2 in the OK Conference for his final season.  He’s a big body who has good hands and deceptive speed.

Head Coach Mike Petrusma had this to say about Jared and his commitment to the Knights:

“I’m glad that Jared decided to come to Calvin.  We’ve had the privilege of having two of his brothers in the program and they’ve all done well for us.  Jared has a solid skill set and will definitely be a solid contributor for us.  There is always an adjustment period with the size and speed of the college game, but Jared comes in with a big body to begin with.  I’m excited to see him progress through his first season and beyond.”

Why did Jared choose Calvin?

“I chose Calvin because I know it is a good school.  Both of my older brothers attend Calvin and played hockey for the Knights and had only good things to say about it.  As well both of my parents graduated from Calvin.”
