The Calvin College Knights are proud to officially announce the commitment of Keenan Kennedy.

Keenan, a Center from Barrie, Ontario, joins the Knights from the Espanola Express in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey league (NOJHL).  He had 8 goals and 9 assists for 17 points in just half of a season (26 games) and served as an Assistant Captain.  He joined the Express during the season from the St. Stephen County Aces in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League (MJAHL).  Prior to this season, Keenan played two years in the MJAHL.  During his Junior career, he totaled 15 goals and 18 assists for 33 points in 124 games.

Keenan’s youth career was spent with the Barrie Colts AAA program where he served as team Captain.

Head Coach Mike Petrusma had this to say about Keenan and his commitment to the Knights:

“We made a conscious effort to add more grit to our lineup after the completion of last season.  Keenan is exactly that.  He’s a tough player that plays with a high compete level.  He loves to take the body and takes pride in winning battles.  He’s played at a very high level throughout his playing career and he will bring more experience to our team.  Keenan is a true competitor and I’m excited to have him in the program.”

Why did Keenan choose Calvin?

“I chose Calvin not only because of the fantastic hockey program and coaching staff, but also the way Calvin graduates are looked up to by employers due to the rigorous academic courses at Calvin. I also love the way that you aren’t just a number at Calvin. You’re not just treated as some other student number in the school, you’re treated as a person and the person you want to become.  Seeing how much the faculty and peers want you to succeed is one of the biggest reasons I chose Calvin College. I am very excited to join the Calvin College family and represent Calvin not just on the ice, classroom, and campus but in the community and other places around the globe.”
