Calvin to Men’s ACHA Division I
Grand Rapids, Mich. – (November 4, 2016) – American Collegiate Hockey Association Men’s Division I Commissioner Brian Moran announced today that the association’s membership vote of Calvin College’s move to Men’s Division I status has been formally approved beginning with the 2017-18 season.
“Calvin College is excited to become a part of the top division in the ACHA and is looking forward to the challenges that Division 1 will present,” said Mike Petrusma, Head Hockey Coach for Calvin College. “Calvin wanted to move to ACHA Division 1 because of the professional manner that all of the teams, and the division as a whole, conduct themselves. Additionally, the growth of the division over the past few years and the potential that it has moving forward was a huge draw for our program.”
The Knights will join the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League. The GLCHL is one of the top ACHA DI conferences in the country and currently boasts four of the 25 top-ranked ACHA D1 teams. Calvin’s addition to the GLCHL brings the membership to 10 teams, joining Adrian College, Davenport University, Eastern Michigan University, Indiana Tech, Kent State University, University of Michigan-Dearborn, Oakland University, Rochester College and Western Michigan University.
Calvin College is a highly ranked, 4-year Christian liberal arts school located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Placed on a beautiful, 400-acre campus the college offers over 100 majors and minors with over a 99% placement rate for their graduates.
